In the past two decades, advances in endodontic biomaterials science have contributed significantly to the dramatic growth of the field of dental traumatology.
The bioactive, regenerative, and restorative potential of modern bioceramic materials have revolutionized treatment options in the emergency management of traumatic dental injuries such as pulp exposure and long-term posttraumatic complications such as infected immature teeth and root resorption after dislocation or fracture of teeth.
New forms and types of bioceramic materials are now being proposed for the appropriate management of traumatized teeth.
The purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview and classification of the bioceramic materials currently used in the field of dental traumatology, based on their material composition and clinical applications.
It will also discuss how the proper selection and proper handling of bioceramic material types based on different dental trauma scenarios can significantly improve the long-term survival of traumatized teeth.
※This is a lecture from the 22nd World Congress of the International Society of Trauma Dentistry (WCDT2024), held July 12-15, 2024.
